Energy efficiency is a vital issue not only for the planners and policy makers but also for the individual and institutional users of energy including the commercial and industrial enterprises. This was reemphasized during a television talk show “Rupantaran” telecasted by Avenues Television Nepal on 5 September 2013 (Retelecast 6 September 2013). During the show the panel members Dr. Uttam Kunwar, Project Manager, Energy Efficiency Centre-Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Mr Dinesh Tuladhar, Managing Director of Hotel Himalaya and Dr. Narayan Chaulagain, Team Leader and Deputy to Programme Manager, Nepal Energy Efficiency Programme (NEEP) also opined that energy efficiency can help industries to reduce the production cost enabling them to make their products more competitive. However, the panelists urged the need of legal and policy frameworks as well as increase in sensitization on the issue for enhancing promotion of energy efficiency in Nepal. According to them, energy audits can be a starting point for EE initiatives at the industries and the audit reports may provide very important information for the energy users and planners.
